Hymn of confession is an admission of a feeling of completeness on our own. We say over and over again to find purpose and fullness in God, but often I find myself feeling just fine as my own master.
This self-sufficient attitude leads to a misrepresentation of how God's love operates. Resentment and fear of God for what he might do to lead us back to his path fester's, and we're left angry that we can't be truly free.
The song dwells on these feelings before allowing for a softening of the heart, an unfulfilled question with hope for an answer
Josiah Kuha and I struggle with how worship music tends to not allow time in our shitty feelings and instead seeks to push us out into that feel-better moment. Hymn of Confession is out attempt to not rush the process but still point towards a hopeful answer.
